As many of you will know, the population of bees is rapidly decreasing.

This page will hopefully help you guys with some top tips on how to help save the bees.

Plant a bee-friendly garden;

Plant wildflowers – these flowers are easy to grow and maintain.

Plant flowers that obtain lots of pollen and nectar.

DO NOT use pesticides; Pesticides are extremely harmful to bees and many other insects.

Build bee hotels and nests

Bee hotels will attract and increase the bee activity within your garden.

Bee hotels provide a place for bees (especially solitary bees) to lay their eggs.

Queen Bumblebees hibernate and need safe places in order to do this, creating a cosy nest will provide a perfect hibernation place.

Weeding

Plants that may seem like ‘weeds’ to us are in fact favoured hugely by bees.

Ensure that you relax on de-weeding and maybe even leave part of your garden untouched.

Tired & Lethargic bees

Sugar water – You can mix a sugar solution by mixing equal measurements of warm water and sugar. Place near the bee’s head in a bottle cap or something similarly shallow, this will help the bee regain energy.

Also, keeping a shallow bowl of water in the garden for bees can be a huge help. Ensuring it is shallow enough with a perch for bees.

Support local beekeepers

Support your local beekeepers and purchase their honey.

This money will be used in aid of maintaining & keeping the bees healthy & happy.

This money may also be used to purchase more hives, which means more bees…YAY!

Don’t forget all of these tips will also help other animals within the ecosystem and they will be extremely grateful!
